After seven Formula 1 championship won in nine years, Mercedes-AMG is starting to pay dividends for Mercedes customers with the SL43 Roadster. The car is powered by a new engine for 2022 in the form of an electric turbocharger with F1-inspired technology and powered by a 48-volt electrical system. Turbocharged engines are notorious for the delay, which is the time between pressing the throttle and the turbo creating maximum boost pressure, as opposed to the better throttle response of naturally aspirated engines. This innovative system uses an electric motor that wraps the turbocharger mechanism, thereby giving the SL43‘s four-cylinder engine the power of a larger engine without the added weight or lower efficiency. Thus, the SL43, which can produce 381 horsepower and 480Nm torque, completes 0-60mph acceleration in 4.9 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 170mph (273kph).
