Mercedes-Maybach Unveils Its First Plug-In Hybrid Model: The S 580 e Sedan

Mercedes-Maybach, the German luxury sub-brand of Mercedes, has debuted its first plug-in hybrid model, the S 580 e Sedan. The magnificent car showcases a smaller engine compared to other Maybach S-Class saloons but with the addition of an electric motor, it delivers more power than the gas-powered S 580 4Matic.

At the core of the Maybach S 580 e is a 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing a maximum of 367 horsepower and 368 ft-lbs of torque. The vehicle also features an electric motor that generates up to 150 horsepower and 325 ft-lbs of torque, taking the total system output to 510 horsepower and 553 ft-lbs of torque. This hybrid engine can propel the car from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph.

The Maybach S 580 e comes with an 11-kW charger, but an option for a 60-kW DC charger is also available, which can refill the battery in 30 minutes. The car has a maximum all-electric range of up to 62 miles. The exterior of the S 580 e looks similar to other Maybach models, with chrome accents, a blue tint on the headlamps, and the trademark Maybach grille. However, the addition of a subtle charging port reveals that this is a hybrid model.

The Maybach S 580 e will first be launched in China, with Europe and other regions to follow. Pricing details are yet to be confirmed for the US, but it is estimated to cost around the same as the Maybach S 580 4Matic, which starts at $184,900. Click here for more details.
