Leverone Makena House

Neighboring the Pacific Ocean, Makena House features architecture that takes advantage of Maui‘s dramatic scenery and coastal light. Located on a sandy slope of the island, this wonderful house creates the illusion of a one-story building. It hides it from visitors with a perforated metal canopy covering that textures its slab-shaped concrete exterior with a starry pattern.

When you enter, a view that opens to the coastline with a glass and steel rear elevation welcomes you. A mesh of wood blinds interacts playfully with incoming sunlight while also providing an element of privacy. The wall coverings, designed by Leverone Design, using bleached cypress and teak wood, manage to develop a soft, natural atmosphere that complements the landscape and creates a neutral backdrop for the owner’s extensive art collection. In response to harsh environmental and natural conditions, ten-meter roof overhangs protect indoor and outdoor spaces from intense rays and frequent storms.
