In a bold move towards the electrified future of off-roading, Ford has unveiled the highly anticipated F-150 Lightning Switchgear concept. Born out of a collaboration between Ford Performance, RTR Vehicles, and drift racer Vaughn Gittin Jr., this concept promises to redefine the capabilities of electric off-road vehicles.
Off-Road Prowess and Design Innovation
Built upon the F-150 Lightning SuperCrew platform, the Switchgear boasts an array of extreme suspension and chassis upgrades. The truck features custom independent semi-trailing arms with FOX 3.0 shocks, providing an impressive 13.5” ride height, 13” of front travel, and 11” in the rear. The widened 80” track, coupled with 37-inch Nitto all-terrain tires, ensures unparalleled stability and traction on diverse terrains.
Visually, the concept showcases a custom widebody kit with massive fender flares, a Dakar-style roof spoiler, and custom side skirts. Steel rock rails, skid plates, and a front steel bumper with LED auxiliary lights fortify the F-150 Lightning Switchgear against the rigors of off-road adventures. The royal blue livery with white, red, and powder blue accents gives the concept a distinctive and captivating appearance.
Electrifying Performance
Under the hood, the F-150 Lightning Switchgear retains its potent electric powertrain, with motors at each axle generating up to 580hp and 775ft-lbs of torque. The unchanged powertrain, combined with a near-perfect 49/51 weight distribution, ensures a thrilling and well-balanced off-road experience.
The Road Ahead
While the Switchgear currently stands as a unique one-off build, it offers a tantalizing glimpse into Ford’s vision for an electric F-150 Lightning Raptor. The concept is set to make its public debut at the 2024 King of Hammers off-road racing event in California, showcasing its prowess in a challenging off-road environment.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of electric vehicles, the F-150 Lightning Switchgear concept paves the way for a new era of electrified off-roading, blending performance, innovation, and sustainability. Click here for more details.
