Portland-based Outside Van is a company that specializes in transforming the Mercedes Sprinter into a mouth-watering, flaky camper van with plenty of interior space. They are dedicated to bringing sports equipment into the wild. Designed with the cycling community in mind, this camper called Tails is built on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144 chassis. It’s a complete mobile bike mechanic station, inside and out.
Tails, where you can secure up to four bikes on its two outer ladders, is also equipped with a Park Tool repair stand mounted inside the rear passenger door. This great adventure trailer includes a stuff sled, custom tool rolls, stuff sacks, a retractable rear door workbench, a side utility ladder, Molle Panels mounted via Mac’s VersaTie Track, and an ARB air compressor. With more than a year of design, construction, testing, and improvement in a relentless quest to push the limits, Outside Van Tails is ready to take long hikes in the depths of forests, navigate desert canyons and take cyclists to their ultimate destination to tour.
Tails is a full basecamp for overnight adventures. Kitchen features include a deep, rectangular under mount sink with pull-down sprayer faucet, overhead cabinetry and microwave, Isotherm 4.6 cu ft stainless steel refrigerator, multiple 110V, USB-C/USB, and 12V outlets, and 20-gallon freshwater tank.
Staying off-grid for extended adventures, Tails is loaded with a robust Lithionics power system, boasting 945Ah of power alongside a 2000W Magnum inverter. For sunny days, the rooftop houses a 140W Zamp solar panel. All this power is more than enough to power and charge your highest output components.
