California-based Humble Motors has unveiled the world’s first solar-powered SUV. The stylish Humble One SUV features revolutionary 80 square feet (7.4 square meters) of solar cells that can produce over 3-megawatt hours of power in a single year. The cells are connected to an on-board system of photovoltaic panels, chargers, and converters that power the vehicle battery, allowing travel without the need to stop and recharge.
One of the biggest benefits of integrating Humble solar technology into an existing electric vehicle is increased range. Depending on where you live, you can add an extra 15+ miles every day without the need for a charge station.
Humble Motors is engineering solar cells with a 32% efficiency target, compared to currently available solar panels which are 18-24% efficient. As their technology evolves, they will feature integrated hardware solutions for better energy yields providing even more free miles per year.
If you can’t find enough sunlight, an impressive 80kWh battery offers a range of 250-300 miles (400-480 km), allowing you to continue your journey without interruption.
