In 1975, Tim Leatherman and his wife bought a Fiat 600 for $300 in Amsterdam before embarking on a long journey across Europe and the Middle East. Not surprisingly, this $300 Fiat was riddled with mechanical problems Tim had to deal with. This inspired the OSU-trained mechanical engineer to design a single tool that combined a number of functions. The result was the multi-tool segment we know today as Leatherman.
Originally developed as a prototype in Leatherman’s garage, the multi-tool “Mr. Crunch” has been built more than 40 years later by the company’s Garage innovation center (a hub where Leatherman’s designers and engineers are pushing the multi-tool market to try and launch something new). They want to honor its founder’s spirit of innovation with the launch of limited-edition Mr. Crunch.
Limited to only 500 pieces worldwide, Leatherman Mr. Crunch Multi-Tool is currently on sale with a price tag of $199. Besides the multi-tool, Mr. Crunch is sold with the old Leatherman leather case. Click here if you want more information.
