Special series car models, while unique in their own right, can be seen widely in the automotive field. Along with a large number of luxury brands, a large number of well-to-do car fans have made it a regular habit to create bespoke and themed luxury vehicles. There are a few instances where high-profile artists have gotten their hands on the design of an avant-garde car, but we seldom see these artistic cars actually being sold to the public. BMW aims to break that mold by selling the limited edition Pop Art-themed M850i xDrive Gran Coupé designed by iconic artist Jeff Koons.
THE 8 X JEFF KOONS, dubbed “the most elaborately designed vehicle in BMW history”, is actually a hyper-stylized M850i xDrive Gran Coupé. After years of collaboration with the German automaker, Koons was finally able to design his dream car. This eye-catching model showcases energetic Pop Art style and combines eleven different exterior colors, from blue to silver and yellow to black. Even though each car takes more than 200 hours to paint alone, this artistic and meticulous approach pays off easily. The Pop Art style blends wonderfully with the geometric elements that accentuate the lines of the Gran Coupé. Fans familiar with Koons‘ past BMW designs will remember the exploding stripe motif.
The interior of THE 8 X JEFF KOONS is also quite magnificent, similar to its exterior beauty. The seats feature premium leather upholstery in bright blue and red, a nod to the classic superhero colors used in the heyday of comics. Although the colors and style of the exterior design are energetic, explosive, and dynamic, the interior design is accordingly a little simpler but certainly not boring. Every aspect of the interior is wonderfully detailed, including Koons‘ signature cupholder panel.
The first THE 8 X JEFF KOONS will be displayed at Rockefeller Plaza in New York before being auctioned off by Christies, and proceeds will go to the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
